Last Quarter Harvest Moon

Last Quarter Harvest Moon in Cancer

September 23 2016

Integrating New Awareness

In the aftermath of the “Living Your Purpose” Eclipse Season, we are integrating some potentially huge consciousness shifts. I say “potentially,” because there is still a certain impulse to turn away from our development and seek rest in what was comforting us a few months ago (especially as we move towards the dark moon).

By staying consciously present, we can acknowledge our need for rest, without closing any newly-opened doors.

We are entering the last week of the Harvest Moon cycle. This is a point of illumination, where we can get a new perspective on what we’ve harvested this month, this season, this year, and reflect on what we still want to accomplish.

This perspective shift may be more of a feeling, as we take a couple months to fully integrate what’s going on into a sense of big-picture clarity (think early December, with the Birth Moon, and sun in Sagittarius). We’re feeling out a new sense of focus, and need time to adjust to new ways of seeing, and find our balance.  The current moon in Cancer supports this energy of feeling things out.

Yesterday’s Autumn Equinox (with moon in Gemini) brought us a powerful force of bringing polarities into balance. Whatever imbalances you experience in your life between opposing forces—like dark/light, masculine/feminine, work/rest, giving/receiving—are attempting to realign themselves. This can make you feel wobbly and uncertain, again as an adjustment period to a new state of balance.

If you’re very balanced to begin with (some people have this superpower) you probably feel supercharged by the equinox and the sun passing into Libra, the sign of balance and justice.

In both the month-cycle and the year-cycle we’re entering the dark-time—time of turning our energies inward for rest, renewal and introspection. Prepare for these times (New Moon Sept. 30, and winter ahead) with your eyes open. Bring consciousness into your downtime by acknowledging your needs, while you keep-up acting on your truth, at a slowing pace.

Last Quarter Sun Moon

At the quarter moons (or half-moons—they are the same thing, as mathematically illogical as that seems) the moon is at a point of tension with the sun. Which means, things are tautly vibrating, ready to swing one way or the other. The first quarter is a make-or-break point with intentions set, or things conceived of at the new moon (either get to it, or abandon it and do something else).

With the full moon, energy culminates and something is brought to fruition (or else frustrations run wild).

The last quarter is a point of release. Release of the energy raised over the high moon time. Release of the successes and failures of the cycle. A time to pull back from the push to GET THINGS DONE, step off the ride, allow the downswing, and release pressure.

This month is the Sun Moon cycle, where the soulful moon is dominated by the expressive sun.

Working Mom's Tonic: Tuning In Tea of the Day

Today's Tea: Working Mom's Tonic

For all the working moms (and ALL mom's are working moms!) and stressed out women (and other people), this is what I'm brewing up today.

Gabriola wildcrafted Nettles for strength, Nettle Seeds for adrenal support (stress-resilience), Rose Petals for protective calm, Motherwort for hormonal balance and emotional resilience, Holy Basil for grounding and cleansing balance, Oatstraw for calming nourishment, and Hawthorn Berries for gentle circulatory balance.

This tea is nourishing, calming and energizing. It's for when you're stressed and need to keep going. For days when you'd like to go back to bed, but the world needs you. Make a strong pot and drink throughout the day. (Effects enhanced by frequent hugs, thank-you's and unabashed self-care).

$20 for a jar, local pickup on Gabriola.

Or $20 for a bag, including shipping, anywhere in the world (if it costs alot to send to your country, you get a bit smaller bag). That's $20 Canadian (significantly less than $20 American).

Art Journal Pinspiration #1-Stripes

stripes as journal lines...

I recently started art journaling. I've always been a writer and have written in a journal frequently since I was a kid. For a while in high school I took an art class and kept a sketch book, and I've always enjoyed messing around with paint. But I've never put writing and visual art together. One I have a natural talent for, the other I. . . enjoy.

But on my birthday I saw a journal with a hard cover, beautifully painted by a local artist, and I bought it as a gift for myself to make art in. I was inspired!

And then I was reminded how awkward an artist I am. I get glorious inspirations and attack the page with wild abandon, then stand back in disappointment :-S

So I looked up art journaling on the Internet to get some tips, and I discovered there's these things called TECHNIQUES. Ha. It's something you can learn. And I LOVE learning!

I quickly became obsessed with art journaling, and then I became obsessed with art journals on Pinterest. It's hard to stop looking at them! But you have to stop looking at them to DO it. So I'm starting this little blog series, Art Journal Pinspiration, to use a Pinterest journal idea that I like and give it a try myself. Sort of a challenge. Or free internet lessons. Or a thing.

I'll share the techniques I pick up as I go along.

You can join along if you want! You can use the pin-prompt I give, or find your own pinspiration, or just do what you want, but post a link (in the comments below) to a photo of your own journal page and comment on your process.

It can be focused on art technique, or a personal therapeutic process, or documenting your life or anything. That's what's so nice about art. I suppose I'll talk a bit about the wellness benefits of making art, and of journaling as I go along, but for now I'm focused on the FUN of creative play. . . which of course is also healing, so yay, happiness for everyone!

Off to paint some stripes and then write on them. I'm using watercolours, show you later!

What kind of art are you messing around with?

New Spirit Moon In Libra

Monday, October 12, 5:06pm

Take time for inward reflection this new moon (and all new moons). Expect guidance from Spirit to readily present itself. Pay attention, whatever form it comes in.

Venus is powerful this moon cycle, just come out of retrograde and governing the new and full moons. This indicates fresh renewal energy for feminine power, pleasure, art, decorating, new clothes, and partnerships.

I call the October moon Spirit Moon, as it is when the veil between worlds thins and access to the spirit world increases. The Sun is ending its yearly life cycle on Earth and this moon is a time of last rites.

Libra applies the scales of justice to this process, so consider making amends, and plans to pay back what you owe, on the spirit level. On the flipside, recognize the abundant gifts you receive for all the love you give, and forgive what debts you can. We can easily see both sides of any situation right now. (Especially Libras: Anyone with a Libra Sun, Libra Moon or Libra Rising gets a good dose of balanced clarity).

This karmic tally takes place more in the spirit realm than the physical one, so think less in terms of cash and stuff, and more in terms of unseen forces supporting, guiding, and reminding you of your eternal responsibilities.

This can be seen as a scary type of energy in our world, as the spirit realm can easily access our deepest truths and fears. I say take comfort in Libra's balancing powers. Trust in your inherent connection to all things, and take this opportunity for letting go, owning up, facing fears, and starting a new cycle on side with Spirit. (Samhain/Halloween is the Pagan New Year as the sun god dies, and a new cycle of creation begins).

Questions to ask yourself this New Moon:

1. What do you OWE?
What mistakes have you made that have not been forgiven?
What could you offer the world that might balance these debts energetically?
What power, talent, or knowledge have you been holding back & keeping to yourself?

2. What do you DESERVE?
Yeah, you do. Own it!

3. What do you FEAR?
These things might show up for you this month. It's a great opportunity to release them!
What would help you let them go?

4. What CONNECTION do you have with SPIRIT?
This may be God, Nature, Goddess, Angels, Ancestors, Spirit Guides. . .
Call on these for support.
If you can't find this support, ASK FOR IT, and see what appears over the next few weeks.

Today, I'm Raining

As I tune into the current energies, the earth's season, the moon phase, the relationships of the stars, my own cycles and positions, the precession of the equinoxes, this and that, it occurs to me that today, I'm raining.

I notice, not when I hear the drops on the roof as I wake up, not as I try to persuade my son to wear his raincoat to kindergarten, but when I feel the drops on my face and heavying my sweater. As I feel how I feel today, tired, subtle, like getting some inner work done.

I think about all I do to prevent being affected by the rain, to protect my schedule from being interrupted, to avoid delays in the plan. As if I were my schedule, my job, my plans, and not NATURE.

Animals don't act the same in the rain. Plants don't. Why would I?

As all energies are interacting patterns, I am the earth in microcosm, as each of my cells is me, as the earth itself is the universe. We all carry the universal DNA some call God. So all these patterns reflect on each other, impact one another.

And the weather is another mirror in which to see myself, attune myself, recognize my place in the grand pattern, and go with the flow.
